Staff working at a hospital pharmacy in the north-west of England have been joined by a robot.
The device has been installed at Warrington Hospital, which is run by Warrington and Halton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Costing £250,000 to purchase and an additional £250,000 to install, the robot reads bar codes on medications and then stores the packets, This Is Cheshire reports.
Principle pharmacist at the centre Janice Cameron said the machine has made a significant difference to the department.
She added: "We went through so much to get where we are now; we've changed our ways of working so it would be almost unimaginable to go back."
The robot distributes around 1,000 packs of drugs per day and it uses two arms so that, if one breaks down, it is able to carry on.
Warrington Hospital houses a range of units, including critical care, surgical, cardiac and stroke departments.
