New equipment 'speeding up radiography training'

New equipment which enables students to experience simulated working environments has been speeding up the training of radiographers.
This is according to a report in This is London, which said that the virtual cancer patient machine enables students at South Bank University to practice administering radiography to virtual patients.
Tutors are able to load different virtual humans on to the machine, which is called VERT, so that trainees can experience different patient scenarios.
The device uses two cinema projectors to show a 3D image of a virtual treatments room which mirrors real treatment areas.
Commenting on the rationale behind the machine, Noreen Simshaw of South Bank University said: "The key is to get people trained and working quickly. This has made a huge difference."
Recently, Great Ormond Street Hospital reported an increase in productivity for plain film X-ray reporting of 40 per cent following the introduction of a speech recognition system named Nuance.
