Speech therapy service labelled outstanding

A speech therapy service for young people has been described as outstanding.
According to the British Stammering Association (BSA), NHS North Yorkshire and York's NHS Trust's community pre-school dysfluency service is extremely effective, the Darlington and Stockton Times reports.
Previously, it had called for improvements to be made.
The NHS trust has been working with the BSA under the Every Child's Chance at Fluency campaign to improve the standard of stammering services available nationally.
Alison Shepherdson, a specialist speech and language therapist for the trust, commented: "Early intervention for children with stammering problems is very important as therapy is more likely to be effective at an early age."
She added that the changes made by the NHS North Yorkshire and York's NHS Trust mean that children under the age of five who have stammering problems now have better and quicker access to appropriate therapy services.
The BSA aims to support research into stammers, promote therapies, help those who are affected by it and promote awareness of the condition.
