Hygiene concerns raised over hospitals

Concerns have been raised over hygiene controls at three hospitals in Norfolk.
It has been revealed that nurses at the county's three main hospitals are not being prevented from wearing their uniforms outside of work.
Currently, nurses from the medical centres are allowed to wear their uniforms when travelling to and from work, although they are encouraged to wear a long coat over them and are urged not to go shopping while in their work clothes.
Judy Ames, lead infection control nurse at NHS Norfolk, stated that she shares the concerns about nurses wearing uniforms outside work.
She commented: "I do get frustrated when I see nurses in uniform in commercial premises. If you see it, I would say report it."
However, Jonathan Williams, assistant director of health intelligence at NHS Norfolk, said the evidence concerning whether banning staff from wearing their uniforms outside hospitals would work is inconclusive.
Established in October 2006, NHS Norfolk covers most of the county, excluding the area around Great Yarmouth.
