A London hospital has been working to make its radiography unit more efficient by introducing a speech recognition system.
Great Ormond Street Hospital has reported a more than 40 per cent increase in productivity for plain film X-ray reporting since it began using the Nuance technology.
It has been looking to use a number of pieces of new equipment to boost its efficiency, according to Simon Hadley, administrator for radiology information systems (RIS) and picture archiving and communications systems (PACS) at the hospital.
He explained the department has been using Soliton IT's Workflow Manager powered by SpeechMagic to link reports, images and paper requests.
"As radiologists transfer from one patient to the next within the RIS, the same transfer now automatically takes place on the PACS," Mr Hadley said.
The children's hospital was opened on St Valentine's Day in 1852, with just ten beds in operation.
It lists Queen Victoria, Charles Dickens and JM Barrie among its past supporters.
