Landmark heart operation takes place

A London hospital recently performed a landmark heart operation, according to the BBC.
Cardiac specialists at St George's hospital, which carried out the first pacemaker procedure in 1958, conducted the 500,000th such operation.
However, experts have warned that, although the UK was one of the pioneering countries in terms of fitting patients with pacemakers, it is now falling behind other nations in Europe.
Founder of the Arrhythmia Alliance Trudie Lobban said: "Although implants have increased in the UK by five per cent each year, we need an increase of 15 per cent per annum to be in line with European implant rates by 2016."
She added that around 80 per cent of the 100,000 sudden cardiac deaths that occur each year in Britain could potentially be avoided if patients were diagnosed and treated "appropriately".
A coalition of charities, individuals, patient groups, medical groups and industry allies, the Arrhythmia Alliance aims to raise awareness of cardiac arrhythmias and improve diagnosis and treatment of the condition.
