Hospital registers with CQC for infection control performance

A hospital in Cheshire has been registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) for its infection control performance.
The Countess of Chester Hospital - which is run by the Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust - was granted the registration unconditionally following an assessment of its infection control management.
Chief executive at the medical centre Peter Herring said: "At the Countess we treat more than 400,000 patients per year, with about 50,000 in-patient and day case admissions.
"I am pleased to say the rates of infection are low and, even more importantly, becoming lower."
He added that the hospital's central zero tolerance approach towards healthcare associated infections focuses on hand hygiene, antibiotic policies and nursing procedures.
Mr Herring went on to say that considerable credit must go to both the hospital's infection control team and all the centre's staff.
The Countess of Chester Hospital houses 580 beds and provides services to people from Cheshire, Ellesmere Port, Neston and north Wales.
