Cardiff hospital may benefit from funding boost

Cardiff Royal Infirmary may benefit from additional funding after the government announced it has earmarked cash for the redevelopment of the facility.
The development is subject to planning approval, the BBC reports.
Cardiff Royal Infirmary has been closed as a district general hospital for ten years.
If the plans are given permission, work will begin on a phased development of services and construction is predicted to take three to four years.
To begin with, the Welsh Assembly is to provide £3 million to demolish the unused buildings and to install a new heating system.
Health minister Edwina Hart said: "Cardiff Royal Infirmary, with its location within the city, is well-placed to provide a range of services for local people.
"I am pleased that this site will now be used to its full potential. This initial work will pave the way for better healthcare services."
Cardiff Royal Infirmary is run by Cardiff and Vale NHS Trust, which provides services to a population of around 500,000.
