A charity has raised money to enable Southend Hospital to purchase new cardiac equipment.
Thanks to donations totalling nearly £10,000, Take Heart was able to hand the medical centre a blood pressure monitor worth £2,000 for patients in the pre-assessment clinic, the Southend Standard reports.
In addition, a scanner with a trolley costing £7,702 has been bought for use in the cardiac care unit.
Take Heart chairman George Turner said: "Donations have ranged from £2,000 received from HSBC bank to the small donations from hundreds of our members and well wishers."
He added that, being a registered charity, Take Heart relies on money from members, friends and sponsors in order to purchase cardiac equipment.
Recently, work got underway on a brand new cardiac unit at Salisbury District Hospital, the Salisbury Journal reported.
The facility will allow specialists to conduct procedures that currently involve patients being transferred to other hospitals and it is due to be completed in November.
