New cardiac unit to be built in Salisbury

Work is set to get underway on a new cardiac unit at Salisbury District Hospital (SDH).
The centre will enable specialists to conduct procedures that currently involve patients being transferred to other hospitals, the Salisbury Journal reports.
Building work is scheduled to last from April until November.
As part of the redevelopment work, the accident and emergency unit is also to be refurbished.
Director of operations at SDH said: "This really is an exciting time for the hospital, our staff and patients as we start a major new programme of developments, which will see improvements to a number of on-site facilities and services."
He added that patients will have access to a number of treatments, such as cardiac angioplasty, once construction is complete.
A treatment for coronary heart disease, angioplasty is a procedure which is sometimes administered following heart attacks and to sufferers of angina.
It involves the inflating of a balloon in the coronary artery, which is inflated to stretch the narrowed part of the blood vessel.
