Hygiene is "highest priority" for UK hospital

Hygiene has been described by a medical professional as the "highest priority" for one hospital in the north-west of England.
Helen Bellairs made her comments following a recent inspection of Ellesmere Port Hospital by the Healthcare Commission.
A team of officials visited the centre in December to assess its hygiene and infection-control standards and found that the medical centre met the required standards.
Ms Bellairs, NHS Western Cheshire's chief executive, said: "Keeping our patients safe and preventing and controlling the spread of infection is our highest priority and we work hard all year round to maintain the high standards that patients have a right to expect."
She added that the trust is "pleased" that the Healthcare Commission recognised the efforts of its staff.
An independent healthcare watchdog for England, the Healthcare Commission assesses and reports on the quality and safety of services provided by the NHS and the independent healthcare sector.
