Pharmacists 'in a great position to move forward in IT'

Pharmacists and the NHS are in a good position to move forward regarding their use of IT, it has been claimed.
Commenting on the issue, health minister Phil Hope said that use of the NHS Care Records Service (NHS CRS) by community pharmacists will form an essential part of the reform agenda for pharmacy services, EHI Primary Care reports.
He made his comments in an address to the Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee.
Mr Hope said: "We can build on the infrastructure provided by the Electronic Prescription Service, but we can also go much further, using things like NHSmail and the Care Record Service to push forward integration and information capture necessary to deliver better services to patients."
The NHS CRS was introduced to make caring for patients easier across organisational boundaries.
It is supposed to enable medical practitioners to gain information about patients more quickly and it will gradually phase out paper and film records.
