A pharmacist has joined a campaign to encourage patients to avoid stockpiling medications.
David Gill, head of pharmacy for Angus Community Health Partnership, is helping with the initiative at Ninewells Hospital, which is situated on the outskirts of Dundee.
The region's health board recently confirmed that drugs worth around £1.2 million are wasted in Tayside each year, the Aberdeen Press and Journal reports.
Members of the Health Public Partnership Group were at Ninewells Hospital recently giving out leaflets and advice about the cost of wasted medications.
A spokesperson for NHS Tayside said: "More than six million prescriptions are written each year in Tayside. It is important to remember that once medicines are dispensed they cannot be reused and must be thrown away."
She added that patients should have their medicines reviewed by their doctor, pharmacist or nurse to ensure that they are necessary and they are not having any unwanted side effects.
