Speech and language therapy waiting time 'too long in Stoke-on-Trent'

Speech and language therapy waiting times in Stoke-on-Trent are too long, it has been suggested.
According to a report in Stoke and Staffordshire paper the Sentinel, youngsters suffering from conditions which mean they are in need of such therapy are having to wait longer than their counterparts elsewhere.
Nearly 200 children with conditions such as stammering, dyslexia, autism and cleft palates are said to be waiting weeks longer than fellow sufferers in Newcastle and the Staffordshire Moorlands.
Now, NHS Stoke-on-Trent has revealed that it is reviewing its waiting times for speech therapy.
Planning director Tina Cookson said: "We recognise we need to improve waiting times. The review will bring clarity on need, demand and waiting times. Interim measures have been taken to address the waiting times."
With an annual budget of £410 million, NHS Stoke-on-Trent serves a population of around 250,000 and runs a range of medical centres, including hospitals, opticians and dental practices.
