'Many hospital patients' experiencing adverse drug reactions

A significant number of patients treated in UK hospitals experience adverse reactions to the drugs administered to them, it has been found.
According to figures produced by Liverpool University, one in seven patients experience complications due to the medication they receive.
Among the ill-effects reported by the researchers were internal bleeding and even death.
The drugs most commonly associated with the adverse reactions were analgesics, anticoagulants and diuretics.
Commenting on the findings, Jonathan Fielden, chairman of the British Medical Association's (BMA's) consultants committee, said it is an international problem and is something that needs to be addressed.
He added: "It is vital that doctors and patients understand the need to regularly review prescriptions and personally tailor treatment to clinical need."
