Speech and language therapy services to be offered remotely

Patients located near to Inverness who require the help of speech and language therapists may soon be offered remote services.
New technology is to be used by health authorities in the area, which is located on the north-east coast of Scotland, to prevent some people having to make long journeys to medical centres.
According to the Aberdeen Press and Journal, innovations that could make such healthcare more accessible were unveiled recently.
"It is difficult for people living in remote areas to access services and often they have to travel long distances. For the bulk of patients in the Highlands, that means a trip to Inverness," stated David Heaney, a senior research fellow at the Centre for Rural Health.
He added that remote speech therapy could be operated from a local GP practice via a live link to a therapist working at Raigmore.
One of the remote services is expected to be introduced this year.
