Hospital workers praised for hygiene standards

Workers at three Lancashire hospitals have been praised for their hygiene standards.
According to the North-West Evening Mail, staff at Furness General Hospital, Royal Lancaster Infirmary and Westmorland General Hospital have received positive feedback concerning their efforts to limit the effects of a recent outbreak of the winter vomiting bug.
Jackie Holt, director of nursing and modernisation for the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust, said that hospital workers deserve credit for their contributions.
She added: "We have taken a pragmatic approach to managing it and the management team has been linking in every day with the operational teams to make sure we can keep work going and keep as many beds open as possible for admissions."
The trust, which was formed in 1998, has had to cope with a number of staff absences due to the outbreak of the bug.
Ms Holt said it had encouraged workers affected by the illness not to return to their duties until they had been free from symptoms for 48 hours.
