An NHS trust has reported a fall in the waiting times for patients in need of hearing aids.
Colchester Hospital University NHS Foundation Trust, which provides healthcare services to around 370,000 people in Colchester and the surrounding area, said that the average waiting time for such people is now 18 weeks.
This represents a fall from January last year when the average time was 84 weeks.
Bosses at the trust say they are confident that they can meet the target of 95 per cent of people receiving their hearing aids within 18 weeks by the end of March.
Currently, the organisation meets the goal for almost 94 per cent of its patients.
Acting audiology services manager Lesley Chapman said: "We've been holding evening and Saturday clinics to help us increase the capacity needed to bring about this huge reduction in waiting times."
She added the achievements have been made thanks to additional funding from NHS North East Essex.
