Private pharmacy opened up in Lancashire hospital

A private pharmacy has been established in a Lancashire hospital, it has emerged.
The new facility, which has been installed in the Royal Blackburn Hospital (RBH), is intended to serve a number of functions.
Bosses believe that it will leave hospital pharmacists free to visit wards and patients. In addition, they hope it will improve medicine management in the medical centre and mean that patients ready to leave the hospital will be able to get their medication more quickly.
The scheme will run at the RBH, which is managed by East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust, for an initial trial period of a year.
Director of pharmacy services at the trust Joe Quinn said: "We believe that this change will bring about a number of benefits for patients and staff alike."
East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust employs around 7,000 staff and claims to treat in the region of three-quarters of a million patients a year.
