Refer an Audiologist
Wednesday 28th January 2009
The majority of people aged 55 and over would like to have access to a hearing screening programme, new research has found.
Conducted by RNID, the study discovered that 88 per cent of people in the age group reported such a desire, people with audiology jobs may wish to note.
Meanwhile, a quarter of those questioned are said to be missing out on social activities because of hearing loss that could be addressed if they saw an audiologist.
"These figures show that there is [an] appetite for a hearing screening programme. The people of the UK value their hearing and they want the government to show they do too," stated RNID chief executive Jackie Ballard.
She added that the organisation wants to send a "clear message" to the government that an NHS hearing screening programme for over-55s is both vital and wanted.
A membership charity, RNID offers a range of services for deaf and hard of hearing people. It also provides information and support.
