Norovirus bug sweeps through hospital

The highly infectious Norovirus vomiting bug has hit a UK hospital, it has emerged.
West Middlesex Hospital - which is run by West Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust - was affected by an outbreak despite having put in place strict hygiene measures in order to prevent such an occurrence.
Consultant microbiologist Stella Barnass said: "The trust put into immediate affect a plan to limit the spread of infection. Standard infection control precautions have been reinforced for staff on the ward and provided to patients and visitors to the ward," the Hounslow Chronicle reports.
She added that this includes strict hand washing, the use of gloves and aprons among medics when attending to patients and thorough daily cleaning.
Meanwhile, the Scottish government recently unveiled new rules relating to hospital hygiene in a bid to cut down on the spread of hospital superbugs.
From this month, doctors and nurses who fail to wash their hands could be sacked, Legal & Medical Magazine reported.
