Pharmacist defends decision concerning GP's dispensary

A medical official has defended a decision to open a new pharmacy in Tollesbury.
Recently, Mid Essex Primary Care Trust (PCT) - which serves a population of around 360,000 - ruled patients should have to collect their prescriptions from the centre, the BrainTree and Witham Times reports.
As of March 1st, all patients living within one mile of Tollesbury surgery will have to collect their prescriptions from the new facility, which opened in November.
The move has provoked anger among some local people, with 200 gathering during a recent public meeting to protest against it.
However, chief pharmacist for the PCT Paula Wilkinson spoke in its defence.
She said: "When the pharmacy application was granted, NHS mid-Essex consulted widely on two occasions. Following this the PCT received a large number of letters from patients and a petition from Tollesbury residents."
All the comments from the consultation were considered by the PCT when it made its decision, she added.
