Surgery celebrates pharmacy development

Medical workers in a Collingham surgery are celebrating after receiving news that plans to cut its medication dispensary services have been scrapped.
If a Pharmacy White Paper, which was published by the government last year, had gone through, dispensing doctors in rural communities would have lost their powers to hand out prescriptions to patients.
However, the Labour administration has backtracked on the proposals.
Collingham's Church View Surgery stood to lose six members of staff if the shake-up had gone ahead, Wetherby Today reports.
Dr Richard Drayson, a general practitioner at Church View, revealed that he and his colleagues at the centre are pleased that the government has had a rethink.
He said: "If the pharmacy had gone then it would have meant a much longer trek to pick up prescriptions for our elderly patients and mothers with young children in particular."
Dr Drayson added that he would like to thank Wetherby MP Collin Burgon, who he said had been "very sympathetic" to the surgery's campaign to keep the service going.
