New radiology and cardiology centre opens its doors

A new lab, which can be used by both cardiology and radiography staff, has opened its doors to patients.
The centre, which is based in North Tyneside General Hospital eight miles outside of Newcastle, features a range of equipment which can be used to test patients at risk of a range of life-threatening conditions, local publication the Evening Chronicle reports.
Among the devices in the lab is a hi-tech scanner which can be used by radiographers and cardiologists for a range of diagnostic procedures.
Consultant cardiologist Colin Doig said: "We're very pleased that the new facility is up and running and helping local patients so they can be treated closer to home."
He added that the centre is expected to process around 400 patients a year from the surrounding area and the technology present in the lab will enable consultants to decide quickly whether patients require surgical or medical treatment.
