Speech therapist raises concerns over autism support

A speech and language therapist working in West Yorkshire has revealed she has concerns over the level of support available to people with autism and their families.
Kate Falkingham, who has worked in the profession since 1969, said she is "struck" by how little assistance there is for such people in the area of Kirklees, the Huddersfield Examiner reports.
She made her comments in the wake of research conducted by the National Autistic Society (NAS), which found that Kirklees council does not know how many people in the area have autism.
Ms Falkingham said: "There are an awful lot of parents who feel like there is a big, black hole where guidance and information is concerned."
Established in 1962 by a group of parents, the NAS is a charity for people affected by autism. It claims to have more than 17,000 members and operates from 80 branches across the UK.
