Hospital receives hygiene improvement notice

A medical centre in London has been issued with an urgent notice to improve its hygiene standards.
Homerton Hospital - which is run by Homerton University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust - was investigated by the Healthcare Commission (HC) in November.
The commission discovered a number of infection control failures, as well as problems in the centre's endoscopy suite.
Among the concerns expressed by the HC was the low level of mandatory training on infection control.
In addition, the layout of the processing room in the endoscopy suite was said to make it difficult for staff to distinguish between dirty and clean instruments.
According to a statement made by the hospital, the immediately necessary works to the suite will be conducted in the next few weeks.
A spokesperson for the trust - which is based in the east London borough of Hackney - said: "An action plan has been put in place to address the issues raised by the inspection."
