Health workers invited to watch cardiac procedures

A number of health trainers were recently given the opportunity to watch open heart surgery.
The medical workers, who help people who have undergone heart operations to recover, were invited into theatre for a day at hospitals in Newcastle, local paper the Evening Chronicle reports.
Among the procedures being demonstrated by cardiac surgeons were triple and quadruple heart bypasses and heart valve replacements.
Those involved also had a tour of cardiac intensive care wards in order to provide them with an understanding of the after-care patients receive.
Roberto Melaco, a health trainer with North Tyneside Primary Care Trust - which employs around 750 people - described the surgery as "extremely interesting".
He added: "It was a great way to bring home what I had learnt in training as actions speak louder than words.
"It also highlighted what a patient goes through and that only six to eight weeks after heart surgery [can] some patients ... start exercising."
