New hygiene measure to impact on Scottish medical workers

The Scottish government is set to introduce new hygiene regulations which will affect people with medical jobs in the country.
As of next month, doctors and nurses who fail to wash their hands could be sacked.
The measure is intended to cut down on the spread of hospital superbugs, Legal & Medical Magazine reports.
A spokesperson for health secretary Nicola Sturgeon said: "We are now adopting a zero tolerance approach to non-compliance and all boards are expected to implement this policy from January 2009."
He added that serial offenders will face disciplinary action under the terms of the new rules.
As part of the crackdown on people who flout hygiene rules, a new awareness raising campaign will also be launched.
In related news, Singleton Hospital and Hill House Community Hospital in Wales were recently found by inspectors to have had shortcomings in the area of infection prevention, the Western Mail reported.
