Audiologists celebrate 50th anniversary of unit

A number of people with audiology jobs were recently among those celebrating the 50th anniversary of a unit.
Royal Berkshire Hospital's audiology department employs 40 clinical scientists, doctors and students and was first opened as research centre in 1958.
Colin Maclean, chairman of the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust - which has an annual budget of £228 million - unveiled a golden plaque to mark the occasion.
He said: "I'm very proud of all the staff - what they've done is taken this unit to be one of the most effective in this whole area. If you've got a hearing problem, this place is capable of delivering state-of-the-art care."
Mr Maclean added that he is looking forward to the department playing more of a national role and providing services outside of the hospital.
Much of the unit's early work centred around testing deafness in babies, newborn hearing screeners may be interested to discover.
