A podiatrist has come up with a new way of preventing heel pain among women who wear high heels, it has emerged.
In news which may be of interest to people with jobs in the industry, Albert D'Angelantonio is offering women in the US treatments which involve injecting a mixture of dehydrated alcohol and numbing medication into the foot.
Commenting on the technique, he said: "It short circuits the nerve so the person doesn't feel the pain. It makes the nerve wither like a plant and shrink in size."
Consequently, women who have the treatment experience less discomfort when they don high shoes.
Recently, fellow podiatrist David Wylie said that the number of elderly people receiving treatment for foot problems has risen in Glasgow, the Herald reported.
He warned that for many, the shoes worn in the 1950s and 1960s are the cause of current issues, adding that once the foot becomes deformed, the skeleton changes and the foot no longer works in the way it should.
