Calls made for construction of new health centre

A UK medical professional is leading calls for the construction of a centre for young patients in Swansea.
Consultant paediatrician Dewi Evans said that the town is the only one of its size in Wales without such a facility, the South Wales Evening Post reports.
He made his comments in response to an announcement that the Welsh assembly is investing £70 million into Morriston and Singleton hospitals, which are run by the Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University NHS Trust.
Referring to a possible children's facility, Mr Evans said: "The centre would be a multi-purpose building that would contain specialist staff necessary to look after children, especially those with multiple or chronic problems."
He added that it would bring together paediatric specialists, physiotherapists, speech therapists and occupational therapists, as well as orthopaedic specialists in problems like cerebral palsy - a condition which affects people's movement and coordination.
According to the expert, such a centre would cost between £8 million and £10 million to create.
