Audiologists use new equipment to help with balance problems

Audiologists at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital are using new equipment to help patients suffering from balance problems.
Staff at the medical centre, which is run by Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Trust - a organisation that employs a total of around 5,700 people - use the technology to retrain patients' brains.
The video nystamography equipment cost £26,000, the Norfolk Eastern Daily Press reports.
It tracks patient's eye movements on a computer screen as they undergo a series of tests and helps to establish whether their symptoms are caused by problems in the inner ear.
Medical staff can then devise a programme of exercises based on the results.
"Tailoring these exercises to the needs of each patient is really paying dividends, with many patients noticing a marked improvement after only a few weeks," stated clinical scientist Debbie Fife.
She added that the technology has increased the number of patients who experience an 80 to 100 per cent recovery from 13 per cent to more than half.
