Refer an Cardiac Physiologist
Friday 5th December 2008
A new package is set to be released to help train clinicians in emergency cardiac care, it has emerged.
The online learning course features animations and audio recordings which are aimed at reinforcing the skills that people with cardiac jobs need to carry out and interpret electrocardiograms (ECGs).
Commenting on the offering, Chris Herbert, business development manager at Medipex, the NHS innovation hub for Yorkshire and Humber, said: "Imagine how patients presenting with suspected cardiac problems from a 999 call would benefit if all paramedics and ambulance technicians were able to recognise when a heart attack had occurred from simply taking and understanding an ECG trace."
The programme was developed by consultant cardiologist Professor Kevin Channer and it has more than 300 real-life ECG traces.
It was supported by funding from the White Rose Health Innovation Partnership - which is led by the universities of Bradford, Leeds, Sheffield and York - and Medipex.
