The damage that high-heeled shoes can do to people's feet is the subject of new research in the field of podiatry.
Scientists from Manchester Metropolitan University are investigating whether there are any health risks linked to wearing stilettos on a regular basis.
For the study, the academics are appealing for volunteers who don shoes with a heel two inches or higher on a regular basis.
They will compare how different types of footwear influence the walks of such people.
The scientists will also measure changes in the wearers' leg muscles using techniques such as MRI and ultrasound scans.
PhD student Robert Csapo, who is conducting the study, commented: "We hope to obtain some hard scientific data that provides useful advice to both women and shoe manufacturers on preventing the adverse effects of high heel wear."
Meanwhile, Eastbourne Today reported last month that podiatry students at Brighton University were to take part in a health scheme aimed at showing older people how to take care of their feet.
