Medical staff launch appeal to improve cardiac care

Medical staff from Kettering General Hospital have launched a fundraising appeal in a bid to secure sufficient capital to improve its cardiac care facilities.
The hospital, which is located in north Northamptonshire and serves a population of around 300,000, aims to raise £100,000.
Speaking to reporter Monique Cleaver from the Northamptonshire Evening Telegraph, consultant cardiologist Dr Salman Nishtar said: "We want to be an up-to-date centre that provides cutting-edge treatment."
Meanwhile, patient Barry York, a lorry driver who was admitted to the hospital suffering from chest pains, said: "I will have to make changes to my lifestyle so extra funding for rehabilitation would be great."
Last month, the Department of Health announced that primary angioplasty is set to replace thrombolysis as the main line of treatment for heart attack victims.
According to health secretary Alan Johnson, the change will save in the region of 240 lives in the UK per year.
