New biomedical research unit to be constructed

People seeking biomedical science jobs may welcome news that a specialist research unit is to be constructed in the UK.
Entitled Pfizer Regenerative Medicine, the facility will focus on understanding the biology of stem cells and the uses of such advances in terms of regenerative medicines.
The ultimate goal of the undertaking is the development of new medical products that can pave the way for the use of stem cells as treatments.
"I'm very excited to lead this new research unit. While there is still a lot to understand about how stem cells can be used therapeutically, we believe it is one of the most promising areas of scientific research," stated Dr Ruth McKernan, who is set to lead the unit.
The centre, which is to be constructed in Cambridge, will employ around 70 researchers and will collaborate with academic, biotech and pharmaceutical partners across the globe.
A pharmaceutical company, Pfizer employs more than 4,000 workers in the UK and has operations in 180 countries around the world.
