Dietician to be employed as part of anti obesity drive

A dietician is set to be employed in Cambridgeshire as part of an initiative aimed at promoting the well-being of people and cutting rates of childhood obesity, it has emerged.
The expert will be part of an organisation called Cambridgeshire Together, which recently received a grant of £160,000 to help reduce the problem of overweight children, Peterborough Today reports.
As part of the initiative, a new training programme will be established.
Commenting on the issue of obesity, assistant director of health improvement at NHS Cambridgeshire Val Thomas said: "The risks to people's health from being overweight are well known and include Type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular problems, respiratory illnesses, joint and movement problems and psychological disorders."
Meanwhile, chairman of Cambridgeshire Together Jill Tuck added that the organisation is "delighted" to have been awarded the grant.
NHS Cambridgeshire is responsible for running 76 GP practices, 91 pharmacies and 80 dental practices.
