MP offers reassurance over drug dispensing changes

A politician has spoken out in defence of government proposals that would change how drugs are dispensed in Britain.
Under plans recently announced by the government, GPs would be banned from handing over medication to patients if there is a pharmacy less than a mile away from their surgery.
MP James Plaskitt has said that opposition to the plans misses a crucial point.
He stated: "We are looking at options for additional surgeries potentially taking on pharmacy roles in the future. The consultation does not pose any risk at all to existing dispensing surgeries."
The MP went on to say that only seven per cent of all GP practices double up as a pharmacy and almost all of these are in rural areas.
Mr Plaskitt made his remarks in response to public opposition to the proposals, with a number of GPs across the country having urged patients to oppose them.
