Work of speech therapy group discussed

The work of a speech therapy support group for stroke patients has been discussed.
Talking Matters, which is run by NHS South East Essex, provides ongoing support for people who have had or are having one-to-one support with a speech or language therapist.
It enables them to meet people who are in similar situations, the Essex Echo reports.
Commenting on the work of medical practitioners in the field, Pamela Smith, head of speech and language at NHS South East Essex, stated: "Speech and language therapists will help people to learn to build their communication skills in a number of ways, through written notes, using shorter sentences or by using repetition or pictures."
In other industry news, research being led by Simon Fisher of the University of Oxford has linked a common disorder which affects speech and language to a gene, the Times reported.
It is hoped that the discovery could lead to better diagnosis and treatment among sufferers.
