MP registers concerns over GP drug dispensing cuts

A politician from Norfolk has launched a petition against a scheme under which GPs would be banned from dispensing drugs if there is a pharmacy less than a mile away from their surgery.
According to MP Norman Lamb, 450 constituents have contacted him since the plan was announced, registering concerns over the rule changes, the North Norfolk News reports.
He said: "My petition is a campaign to preserve a very important rural service. It probably affects north Norfolk more than any other constituency because every rural practice in north Norfolk has a dispensing practice."
According to the North Norfolk News, 29 per cent of patients in the NHS Norfolk area use the dispensing service.
Meanwhile, Hampshire MP Mark Oaten recently began canvassing local opinion concerning government plans to change the role of pharmacists by enabling them to play more of a role in the diagnoses of long-term conditions, this is hampshire.net reported.
