'More evidence needed' to prove worth of technologies in NHS

An expert has said that more evidence is required to prove the worth of preventative technologies in the NHS.
According to a spokesperson for the Department of Health (DoH), £80 million has been invested in such technologies for use by local authorities in England in a bid to see how useful they are, people with UK medical jobs may be interested to discover.
He said: "We are now undertaking what we believe to be the largest randomised control trial of telehealth and telecare in the world here in England."
The spokesperson added that through "rigorous academic evaluation", the DoH aims to demonstrate what technology works and how it can improve the lives of older people living in the UK, as well as those with long-term medical conditions.
Telehealth is the delivery of health services and information via telecommunications technologies, while telemedicine focuses more narrowly on the curative aspect of healthcare.
