Campaigners issue warning over blood services

Campaigners have registered their concerns about the ability of the blood services facility at Gosport's War Memorial Hospital to cope with a rise in patient numbers scheduled for next year.
According to a report in the Portsmouth News, people are worried that the service will be put under too much pressure when nearby medical centre the Haslar Hospital shuts, people with phlebotomy jobs may be interested to discover.
Responding to the concerns, Hampshire Primary Care Trust - which has a workforce of around 3,500 people - has said it wants to move blood services to GP surgeries.
A local doctor, who wished to remain anonymous, said: "Phlebotomy takes up a lot of car parking spaces. I believe 5,000 [people] a month use Haslar for the service and the figure is similar for the War Memorial Hospital.
"Moving the service to GP surgeries is the only way to cope when Haslar closes."
