Biomedical scientist gets lifetime achievement award

A UK-based biomedical scientist has received recognition for his contribution to the field.
During a recent ceremony held in Geneva, Professor Fotis Kafatos was handed a special lifetime award by the Louis-Jeantet Foundation.
The medical expert, who is the chair of immunogenomics at Imperial College London's department of life sciences, specialises in the malaria parasite and transmission of the disease.
Commenting on his achievement, he said: "I am delighted by this special award from a leading European foundation, honouring the research discoveries that my colleagues and I have made at Imperial and [the European Molecular Biology Laboratory]."
Meanwhile, in other news which may interest those looking for biomedical science jobs in the UK, the Medical Research Council recently announced it has awarded £3.7 million to the development of a new centre to research drugs.
To be run by scientists from the universities of Liverpool and Manchester, the initiative will also involve input from pharmaceutical companies.
