'Up to £10m prescriptions wasted each year in North Yorkshire'

A significant amount of money is being wasted on unused prescriptions in North Yorkshire, it has been suggested.
According to a report in local newspaper the Press, the Department of Health has estimated that between £2 million and £10 million worth of medicines are not taken by their intended recipients.
In a bid to cut the losses, North Yorkshire and York Primary Care Trust (PCT), has launched a campaign calling on people to stop ordering drugs that they do not need or have stopped taking, people with pharmacy jobs may be interested to discover.
The PCT's principal pharmacist Sue Dale said: "Doctors make a diagnosis and prescribe medicines based on the condition of a patient assuming they have been taking their medication as prescribed, so people need to be honest about how they've been taking them."
Formed in October 2006, North Yorkshire and York PCT serves an area of 3,200 square miles.
