New robot joins pharmacy department in Peterborough

A new robot has joined pharmacists at Edith Cavell Hospital in Peterborough, it has been revealed.
The £220,000 piece of technology has been given to the department to help revolutionise the process of stocking, stacking and dispensing drugs for patients.
It is said to be dispensing around 80 per cent of patients' medication and restocks itself for the next day overnight.
Commenting on the robot, pharmacy operations services manager Deborah Parsonage said: "It increases the speed with which prescriptions can be dispensed. It means less time spent by staff and the need for fewer staff, which means their time can be spend better within the wards," Peterborough Today reports.
She added that the hospital had decided to use the robot because of its rising workload.
Edith Cavell Hospital is run by Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which provides acute medical, surgical and day surgery services for the population of Peterborough and its surrounding area.
