Biomedical scientist up for award

A medical researcher from the north-west of England has been nominated for a regional accolade, it has emerged.
Biomedical scientist Andy Minnett is among those shortlisted for a TrusTECH North-West NHS Innovation award, the Bolton News reports.
The ceremony is due to be held later this month.
In news which may be of interest to those seeking biomedical science jobs, the specialist was recognised for a new computer programme he wrote which has helped keep the turnaround time of medical tests down.
Called the Monitor Short Turn Around, or MonSTA, the programme assists staff in keeping track of specimens.
In other industry news, a number of people with biomedical science jobs at the University of Sheffield were recently among those who received a £2 million grant to research cancer using the latest imaging technologies, the Sheffield Telegraph reported.
Staff at the institution will develop new ways of investigating blood and oxygen flow in tumours.
