Audiology assessment waiting times 'among the highest'

While the waiting times for key diagnostic tests among NHS patients are falling, those for audiology assessments make up the highest proportion of long waits, new research has revealed.
The figures, which may be of particular interest to people with audiology jobs, were produced by the Department of Health.
In its monthly update of the progress the NHS is making in tackling the waiting times for tests such as scans, the department suggested that the number of patients - for whom English commissioners are responsible - waiting for more than 13 weeks for a diagnostic test in August was 3,300.
This represents a fall of 18.3 per cent from the previous month.
Meanwhile, although waits for audiology assessments made up the highest proportion of long waits, the number of patients waiting more than six weeks fell by 700 between July and August 2008.
In other news, Hamilton South MSP Tom McCabe recently announced his support for a campaign by the National Deaf Children's Society to gather data on the number of deaf children in Scotland, the Hamilton Advertiser reported.
