Refer an Biomedical Scientist
Tuesday 7th October 2008
A number of people with biomedical science jobs were recently among those who received a cash boost to research cancer.
The University of Sheffield has been handed a grant of £2 million as part of a nationwide initiative that will see the latest imaging technologies developed and introduced, the Sheffield Telegraph reports.
A number of organisations have contributed to the funding, including Cancer Research UK, which aims to improve the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of the disease.
Staff at the university's School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences will use existing imaging technologies in order to develop new ways to investigate blood and oxygen flow in tumours.
"This grant puts Sheffield at the forefront of cancer imaging within the UK. Only a handful of groups worldwide have access to the technology which we will install through this grant," stated Professor Martyn Paley, joint lead scientist for the University of Sheffield cancer imaging programme grant.
