NHS trusts 'facing increasing debts'

A number of NHS trusts in England are facing mounting debts, according to the findings of a study.
Conducted by the Audit Commission, the figures suggested that, of the trusts examined, 20 are falling below the minimum management standards of their budgets required by the government, in news which may be of relevance to those with UK medical jobs.
Meanwhile, 12 of these organisations had failed to meet targets for three years running, the Times reports.
Among the trusts identified as building up debts were Trafford, Scarborough, Worcestershire, Sidcup and the London boroughs of Bromley, Hounslow and Barking.
In more positive news, however, figures released last month by the Health Protection Agency revealed that medical centres in Britain are enjoying increasing success in the battle against superbugs such as MRSA.
According to the organisation, there were 836 cases of such bloodstream infections between April and June 2008, representing a decrease of 14 per cent compared to the previous quarter.
