Register as an Dietitian
Monday 6th October 2008
A number of people with dietician jobs in the UK have been involved in an initiative designed to combat childhood obesity.
Entitled Activ-eat, the scheme has been developed by Bupa and is intended for schools.
It encourages youngsters aged between six and nine to learn about healthy eating, as well as exercise.
"Research clearly shows that childhood obesity is on the increase across the UK and we want to make sure we are playing a part in combating this problem," stated Nicole Humphreys, community relations manager at Bupa.
The programme will see teams of adults visit primary schools with fruits and juicers to demonstrate how healthy drinks and snacks can be made.
Due to begin in London next month, the Activ-eat programme will be rolled out to 27 UK schools by the end of next year.
With roots tracing back to the 1940s, Bupa is an international healthcare firm which claims to have more than seven million customers across the world.
